Traditionally found in many Indian and Asian dishes, Turmeric has been used for hundreds of years. It is such a versatile spice due to its beautiful colour and distinctive flavour. It can be used as a cooking ingredient, dye, or it has even been praised for its health benefits.
As part of the ginger family, Turmeric is effective both ground and fresh. Usually it is used in savoury dishes however it can provide an earthy addition to your sweet creations too.
Anyone who frequents trendy coffee bars may have noticed the rise in popularity of the Turmeric Latte. When blended with spices such as cinnamon and ginger, the turmeric latte is a comforting cup of antioxidants and makes a unique alternative to its coffee based counterpart.
We've put together a couple of simple recipe ideas to incorporate this distinctly flavoursome spice.
Turmeric Tea
Bring a cup of water to the boil and then add 1/4 tsp Turmeric and 1/4 tsp ground ginger. Reduce the heat and allow to simmer for 10 minutes or so. Stir in a very small amount of milk and then strain in to your mug. Add honey or syrup to your mixture for added indulgence.
Turmeric Roasties
With Easter around the corner, it's time to start planning the family dinner.
To add a bit of excitement to your roast vegetables, sprinkle some Turmeric on top before roasting. You will be able to enjoy the earthy and warming taste of the Turmeric coming through.
